3/9 girls basketball: Sparta 63, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 23(2010/03/13) Sophomore guard Erin Murray scored 11 points in the second quarter when the Spartans outscored G-E-T 17-5 to take control of the game. Haylee Kirking led Sparta with 11 points and six rebounds.
2/26 boys basketball: Cool night: G-E-T beats MVC champ, wins share of Coulee(2010/02/27) ONALASKA — The Onalaska High School boys basketball team didn’t allow Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau to fire away from the 3-point line. But the Hilltoppers couldn’t stop the red-hot Redmen from posting another impressive victory.
2/25 girls basketball: Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 41, Onalaska Luther 40(2010/02/26) Amanda Scherr’s three-point play as time expired capped the Redmen’s come-from-behind victory. Justine Emerson and Steph Piddington both scored 11 points for G-E-T. Jessie Kish led the Knights with 13 points.
2/23 boys basketball: Gale-Ettrick-Trepealeau 64, Tomah 43(2010/02/25) The Redmen hit 11 3-pointers — Josh Jenkins had six and a game-high 23 points — to win their ninth straight game. G-E-T buried Tomah with a 22-10 run through the third quarter and plays Onalaska on Friday.
2/22 girls basketball: Aquinas 45, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 25(2010/02/23) Kristine Schill scored eight of her game-high 13 points in the first half. The Blugolds were 14-for-20 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Jenny Gallagher scored six points.
2/20 wrestling: Division 2 Somerset sectional(2010/02/21) Team champion: Ellsworth 116.5 points SOMERSET, Wis. — Melrose-Mindoro/G-E-T’s Jorey and Frank Dobbs each advanced to the sectional final match of their respective weight classes before falling. Still, both earned a spot in this week’s state tournament.
2/19 gymnastics: Coulee Conference Meet Champion: GMC 132.75(2010/02/20) Viroqua’s Karla Hagen won the all-around for the fourth year in a row with a score of 37.05. Hagen place first on the uneven bars (9.15), floor exercise (9.575) and the balance beam (9.3). West Salem/Aquinas sophomore Maddy Haupert placed second in the all-around (35.375) and won the vault (9.1).
2/18 boys basketball: Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 84, Onalaska Luther 57(2010/02/19) The Redmen had five players score in double figures for the second time this season. Josh Jenkins had six of G-E-T’s 16 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 24 points. Riley Bambenek scored 15 for G-E-T.
2/16 girls basketball: Arcadia 39, G-E-T 34(2010/02/18) Mianna Sobotta scored all nine of her points in the second half for Arcadia, which had four players score six or more points but none in double figures. West Salem’s Steph Piddington led all scorers with 15 points.

2/12 girls basketball: Black River Falls 38, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 30(2010/02/15) Black River Falls scored 27 points in the second half. Emma Erlandson was 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter and scored a game high 16 points. The Tigers were 17-for-26 from the line for the game.
2/10 boys basketball: Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 53, Arcadia 38(2010/02/11) G-E-T’s red-hot shooting in the first half — the Redmen made seven 3-pointers, three each by Mitch Doerr and Josh Jenkins — helped them pull within one game of league-leading Arcadia. The Raiders made 27 percent (14 of 52) of their field-goal attempts.
2/10 girls basketball: Westby 62, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 24(2010/02/11) Westby junior guard Jenna Engh scored eight of her team-high 14 points in the first quarter. Maggi Bishop and Abby Midtlien each added 12 points for Westby. Steph Piddington and Hilary Hynes each scored eight for G-E-T.
2/6 boys hockey: Aquinas Co-op 5, Grafton 1(2010/02/09) Nic Barnes scored two goals for the Avalanche, the first of which gave Aquinas a 3-1 lead in the second period. Barnes has scored 11 goals this season for the Avalanche.
2/6 boys basketball: Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 61, Durand 32(2010/02/09) The Redmen took control early by going on a 20-2 run over the first six minutes of the game. G-E-T’s Riley Bambenek scored 12 of his 15 points in the first quarter. Lucas Collom also scored 15 points for the Redmen.
2/5 girls basketball: West Salem 41, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 28(2010/02/06) Tayler Jenks scored all 11 of her points in the first three quarters and led three Panthers players in double figures. Meagan Koepnick and Cierra Jacobson added 10 points each as West Salem won its seventh straight game.
2/4 boys hockey: Aquinas Co-op 5, Sparta Co-op 2(2010/02/05) Joe Burge made 36 saves and Peter Coppola scored twice as the Avalanche handed the Vipers their first conference loss. S/WS/B had a 20-4 shots-on-goal advantage in the third period but Burge only let one shot by. Jacob McCabe had a goal and an assist for the Vipers, who remain in first place by one game over Onalaska.
2/2 boys basketball: Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 70, Westby 44(2010/02/04) Lucas Collom scored eight of his 16 points in the second quarter for the Redmen. Riley Bambenek scored a game-high 19 points for G-E-T, which moved into second place. Nick Anderson led Westby with 13 points.
1/29 boys basketball: Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 72, West Salem 44(2010/02/02) Lucas Collom scored 10 points in the first quarter, Riley Bambenek scored 10 in the second quarter, and Josh Jenkins scored 10 in the third quarter for G-E-T. West Salem’s leading scorer, Christian Koepnick (18.2 ppg.) was limited by an injury and did not score.
1/28 girls basketball: Viroqua 48, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 44(2010/01/29) Senior guard Chelsea Berra scored 13 of her game-high 19 points in the first half for the Blackhawks, who recovered from a two-point third quarter to bury the Redmen in the fourth. Junior Justine Emerson scored 13 points to lead G-E-T.
1/26 boys basketball: Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 43, Viroqua 42(2010/01/28) Riley Bambenek put the Redmen ahead to stay at 43-42 by sinking both his free-throw attempts with one minute left. Josh Jenkins led G-E-T with 14 points. Ben Brooke scored 21 points for Viroqua, which failed to score on its last two possessions.
1/25 girls basketball: Sparta 70, GALE-ETTRICK-TREMPEALEAU 32(2010/01/26) The Spartans took control early by opening the game on a 12-0 run. Megan Herrman scored six of her team-high 18 points in the first quarter for Sparta. Justine Emerson led G-E-T with 16 points.
1/23 boys basketball: La Crescent 47, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 35(2010/01/25) The Lancers finished off a season sweep of the Redmen behind another double-double by senior center James Lazarcik (13 points, 13 rebounds) and 13 points from Calvin Waller. The Lancers, who needed overtime to beat G-E-T to open the season, pushed a five-point lead into double figures for good early in the third quarter and won their ninth straight game.
1/23 girls basketball: LA CRESCENT 56, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 23(2010/01/25) Stacy Schiltz, Kayla Sandvik and Jena Kadlec scored 10 points apiece for the Lancers, who scored the first nine points, held the Redmen without a field goal until 6:40 remained in the second quarter and once held a 24-3 lead. G-E-T had 24 turnovers, and La Crescent’s Jenna McDonough had six steals in her team’s third straight victory.
1/18 boys basketball: GALE-ETTRICK-TREMPEALEAU 46, Viroqua 45(2010/01/19) Neil Canar won the game for the Redmen by going 1-for-2 from the free-throw line with 1.8 seconds left. Canar was fouled after rebounding a missed shot by Riley Bambenek. Bambenek tied the game at 45 by going 1-for-2 at the line with 15 seconds left.
